Police Commissioner Takes Decisive Action... DPO Sacked for Unjust Detention of Lawyer in Lagos!

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gowon Estate Division has been sacked by Lagos State Police Commissioner CP Adegoke Fayoade for reportedly detaining a lawyer who was pursuing justice for his client.

The command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed in a statement that the DPO was removed following the completion of inquiries into the accusations leveled against him. He declared that the DPO would be removed until other supervisory authorities examined his case.

Olumide Sonupe, a lawyer from Lagos who was arrested on December 30, 2023, while attempting to secure his client's bail from custody at the Moshalashi Police Station in the Alimosho part of the state, filed a petition with the Police Chief.

The command will keep enforcing the law and disciplining any officer who is found to be in violation, the statement continued.

The dismissal of the Gowon Estate DPO for the wrongful arrest of attorney Olumide Sonupe is an important step in making sure that law enforcement is held accountable. This incident serves as a reminder that everyone is bound by the law, regardless of their status. These steps help to restore public confidence in law enforcement as society continues to seek accountability and openness. It is crucial to keep an eye on and encourage continued initiatives aimed at helping our law enforcement agencies cultivate a culture of accountability and fairness.
