NAFDAC Cautions Nigerians Against Counterfeit Injections of Paracetamol.

The public has been informed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, or NAFDAC, about the sale of a fake injection of paracetamol that is being sold under the incorrect name, 300 mg/2 ml I.M. IV Aminoglycoside Antibacterial.

The product was found, according to the agency, during a surveillance operation conducted by the agency's post-marketing surveillance team in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The agency stated that a sample of the fabricated product was sent for laboratory examination, and the findings of the examination carried out by NAFDAC Laboratory Kaduna revealed that the product's sole ingredient was paracetamol.

While aminoglycosides are a type of antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by bacteria that are difficult to treat, paracetamol injection is an analgesic and antipyretic used to treat mild to moderate pain and fever. NAFDAC states that despite what is stated on the label, the medication is not an aminoglycoside antibiotic.

According to NAFDAC, Shandong Shenglu Pharm. Co. Ltd. in China produces authentic 300mg/2ml I.M. IV paracetamol, which is sold by Sifam Life Care Pharmaceutical Ltd. in Kano, Nigeria.

It stated that the medicine is not an aminoglycoside antibacterial; rather, NAFDAC has registered it as an analgesic.

According to NAFDAC, the product's status as a phony injection of paracetamol has been verified by the registration certificate.
