2 Students Die In A Stampede At Nasarawa State University.

While rushing to gather food supplies provided to them by the state government as temporary measures to ease the country's current economic hardship, two students at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) are reported to have died in the process.

Friday morning, the students, whose identities cannot be immediately determined, were stampeded to death.

The incident occurred at the institution's Convention Square, and a source there confirmed that the impacted pupils were all female. However, the source also stated that multiple students had injuries of varying degrees.

The incident was also corroborated by Yunusa Yusuf Baduku, National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, who said that individuals who were hurt had been sent to nearby hospitals to receive medical assistance. But Baduku was unable to determine the exact number of casualties right away.

“Seriously, what happened this morning at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi is uncalled for, and very pathetic. After we arranged for the distribution of palliatives to the students which was to be held at the University’s Convocation Square, they (students) suddenly arrived at the venue in their numbers and overpowered the security. They broke through the gate into the Convocation Square where the bags of rice was to be shared. Unfortunately, most of our female students sustained several degrees of injuries, while others got suffocated because of the population at the venue for the distribution of the palliatives.
Right now, I am at the Federal Medical Center, Keffi, where we brought some of our students for emergency treatment. For the numbers of those injured, I cannot confirm that at the moment because some of them are at the school’s clinic while others are here at the FMC, Keffi receiving treatment,” He explained.

On Tuesday, the state administration started giving out 7 and a half kilograms of grains to students at various colleges in the state capital of Lafia. It was learned that the items were accompanied by a cash presentation of  N5,000 each.

The Federal University of Lafia, Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia, were among the students who benefited. As Governor Sule pledged, that gesture would be extended to institutions outside the state capital.
