3,712 Confiscated Commercial Motorcycles Crushed by FCT
According to the Federal Capital Territory's Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), from January to December 2023, its Special Task Team seized 1,408 automobiles, 3,712 commercial motorbikes, and 1,112 tricycles from the region.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), through its Head of Public Relations and Enlightenment, Mr. Kalu Emetu, provided the DRTS figures that show this.
According to the statistics, the 3,712 commercial motorcycles that were impounded were crushed, but some of the vehicles were returned to their owners once the fines were paid and the necessary repairs were made.

According to him, the directorate received more than N127.541 million in 2023 from owners of impounded cars and tricycles who paid fines into government coffers.
He further added that cars that had been seized because they were unsafe for use on the road were typically unloaded into scrap and returned to their owners in order to keep them off the road.
He clarified that the FCT legislation prohibiting the use of commercial motorbikes and unfit vehicles in the city called for the destruction of motorcycles and automobiles.
