78 Hostages Freed By Nigerian Army Troops.
While conducting clearance operations in Borno areas, Nigerian Army troops from the 7th Division have killed five terrorists and freed 78 hostages.
According to a statement from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, forces on an aggressive clearance patrol on March 22, 2024, effectively evacuated six communities where terrorists had taken hostages and been hibernating.
The villages and settlements the military cleared were called Ngurusoye, Sabon Gari, Mairamri 1 and 2, Bula Dalo, and Bula Dalo expansion by Nwachukwu. The general areas of Yamanci and Gargaji were cleansed as well.
A terrorist's cell phone and one flag were found by the military during the operation.
According to an Army spokesman, during the mission, forces came into touch with the terrorists and engaged them in a gunfight in which the five were killed. He continued by saying that the army had also freed 78 people, including 35 women and 43 children who had been taken as prisoners by the terrorists.
The rescued victims, according to General Nwachukwu, are being held for a preliminary investigation and profiling. He also stated that troops are still moving on with Operation Desert Sanity III, which aims to purge terrorists and militants from the Northeast.
