Imam Advises Nigerian's To Consider Muslims During Fasting Hours.
Dr. Tajudeen Adebayo, the Chief Imam of Falomo Lagos Central Mosque, has urged the people to show consideration for the fasting Muslim faithful by abstaining from eating in their presence.
According to Adebayo, eating in public while fasting debases the sensitivity of individuals who are fasting and may deter others from engaging in the self-denial practice. In Lagos on Thursday, the cleric spoke with NAN amid the controversy surrounding some devout Muslims who were found to be eating during their fast.
Remember that on Wednesday in Kano, ten males and a female groundnut vendor were taken into custody by Hisbah, the Islamic Police, for reportedly eating in public during the fasting hours.
The males were detained close to a Kano market after the female vendor was discovered consuming food from her items, according to Hisbah spokesperson Mr. Lawal Fagge, who verified the arrest.
Fagge claimed that a tip from bystanders made the arrest possible. The Lagos priest responded to the situation by saying that fasting during Ramadan is holy and ought to be observed by everyone in a perfect Islamic environment.

“Fasting is mandatory for every mature healthy Muslim who’s not on a journey. Exempted from fasting are sick people, travelers, the elderly, pregnant and breastfeeding women who can’t bear it. Women who are experiencing their monthly flow or childbirth blood are exempted too.
It’s courteous for others to respect the sensibility of those who are fasting by not eating publicly.”
He claims that their detention stemmed from their perceived disregard to the sentiments of the broader public.
