Militant Leader In Connection To The Killing Of Military Officers In Delta State Tracked By Military.

The Nigerian army has traced the suspected militant leader to the riverine Igbomoturu hamlet in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. Last Thursday, 16 soldiers were killed at Okuama Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.

According to Vanguard, militants' homes were destroyed by soldiers, and some young people who opposed their incursion were killed.

On Sunday, March 17, at around eight in the morning, soldiers are said to have arrived in the settlement in seven gunboats and a passport boat. They immediately roped off the community, causing the locals to flee into the bush for safety. To apprehend those suspected of fleeing to the Akugbene community in the Bomadi Local Government Area, they also launched an attack on it.

They took the chairman of the Akugbene community and numerous others to Bomadi, the council area headquarters, due to allegations that they provided sanctuary to the fugitive chairman of the Okuama community and additional suspects.

It was also learned that on Monday, March 18, the Nigerian military's 181 Amphibious Battalion at Bomadi was visited by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State.

The riverbank town saw increased security in anticipation of Oborevwori's visit. Helicopters hovered overhead, and armored vehicles stationed by mixed security personnel at key places were set up as early as the morning. The governor immediately proceeded to the military camp at the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC Road, in Bomadi, where he met with the army authority behind closed doors for more than an hour.

The governor's visit was related to the troops' deaths last week and the ensuing destruction of the Okuama hamlet, according to the findings.
