NCYP Urged Nigerian Military Not To Take Retaliatory Action.

Following the killings of 16 Nigerian Military officers by the youths of Okuama community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State, the Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) have denounced this act.

To honour the sacrifices made by the courageous soldiers and women who were killed, the group insisted that justice must be served and urged the military not to take retaliatory action.

Isaac Abrak, the chairman of Northern Christian Youth Professionals, called on the Nigerian Army to carry out a comprehensive and transparent inquiry into the incident, guaranteeing that justice is served competently and without endangering innocent civilians.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the fallen soldiers, and we stand in solidarity with the Nigerian Army during this time of mourning. We call for the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible for this heinous act,” it stated.

The statement further added, “History has shown that heavy-handed responses can exacerbate tensions and hinder military and public cooperation.”

In order to combat criminals lurking in the forests, the statement urged state governors and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to give priority to revitalising the forest guards.
