Nigerian Senate Enacts Student Loan Bill.

The Student Loan Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 was signed into law by the Senate on Wednesday.

The Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) report was considered and adopted after it was delivered in plenary by the committee's chairman, Senator Muntari Dandutse (APC, Katsina South).

Remember that the bill went through its second reading in the Senate and the House of Representatives last Thursday.

President Bola Tinubu requested last week's repeal of the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) Bill and the enactment of a new one in letters to the Senate and the House of Representatives, according to LEADERSHIP.

By addressing issues with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund's (NELF) administration structure, applicant eligibility standards, loan purpose, funding sources, disbursement, and repayment procedures, the new Act will improve the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme's execution.

Following the announcement of a temporary halt of the student loan program's initiation, Tinubu took action. The purpose of the statute was to provide low-interest loans to Nigerian students enrolled in postsecondary education institutions so they may finish their education.
