Public Holiday Confirmed.
The Federal Government of Nigeria announced Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays to celebrate Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively, as Nigerians join Christians worldwide in remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In making the statement, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of the Interior, challenged Nigerians in general and Christians in particular to follow Jesus Christ's example of selflessness and love by giving his life in order to save mankind.
Beyond its religious significance, Easter promotes virtues of love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are crucial for societal cohesion and harmony, according to the minister's statement, which was signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako.
In order to have a good impact on Nigeria's socioeconomic growth, Tunji-ojo urged Christians to aspire to the values mentioned above, emphasizing that doing so will promote unity, lessen conflict, and promote collaboration among Nigerians.
In line with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, the minister also called on Nigerians to perform deeds of kindness and compassion to improve the material circumstances of those who are less fortunate.
In addition to greeting Christians both domestically and overseas a joyous and prosperous Easter, he urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu-led government's efforts to achieve sustainable development and bring prosperity to all.
