A fatal accident along the Sango Ota – Abeokuta Motorway on Saturday morning claimed the life of an unidentified National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member stationed in Ogun State.
After the collision, which happened at approximately 6:55 a.m. at the Ago Adura axis of Itori town in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, the Corps member's identity could only be determined by the NYSC cap that had been placed in his car.
According to LEADERSHIP, some of the students from the school who flocked to the accident scene to assist with rescue efforts identified the deceased corps member as one of those NYSC members deployed to the D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic in Itori for the one-year mandatory national service. The corps member drove the ash-colored Mercedes Benz saloon car with the license plate JJJ 168 JF.
Since the crash happened just a few metres from the school gate where the corps member was serving, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun State-owned Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the incident, attributed the cause to the deceased's excessive speeding and lack of concentration.
