Flood In Taraba Kills One And One Person Confirmed Missing...!

Following a flood that devastated Taraba State's Nguroje Community in the Sardauna Local Government Area, one person has been officially declared deceased and another remains missing.

In a region not used to such catastrophe, the event on Saturday caused unheard-of levels of devastation.

Nelson Lens, a member of the Taraba State House of Assembly who represents the area, confirmed the number of casualties and the significant damage caused to the village.

Speaking on Sunday from Jalingo, the state capital, Lens expressed shock at the tragedy, saying it was the first of its sort in the region and that it had not only claimed a life but also left one of our community members missing.

He acknowledged that many hectares of crops had been washed away and that the unrelenting floodwaters had wrecked several buildings.

“The rain, lasting many hours, has left many of our residents without homes and destroyed a significant portion of our agricultural land,” He continued, emphasizing how critical it is that the impacted families receive immediate help and aid.

Residents of the impacted community have made a plea for assistance, asking the state government and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to intervene and provide the victims with the necessary help during their difficult time.

As a temporary measure to address the emergency, persons affected by the flood have been moved into public spaces such as schools and houses of worship.

This calamity puts additional strain on the endurance of residents in this Northeastern state, coming soon after a destructive windstorm that devastated Takum Local Government Area.
