Kenya Military Helicopter Crash Claims Lives Of 9 Senior Officers And The Defense Commander!
President William Ruto announced on Thursday, April 18, that the country's defense commander and nine other senior officers perished in a military helicopter crash in a remote region of Kenya.
Today at 2:20 PM, a horrific air catastrophe occurred in our country. General Francis Omondi Ogolla passed away, and I am very sorry to announce this," Ruto said to reporters.
Following the disaster, the president called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council and announced that two of the nine "gallant military personnel" on board had survived and that nine more had perished.
He stated that in order to determine the reason for the crash, which happened in Elgeyo Marakwet county, some 400 kilometers (250 miles) northwest of Nairobi, the capital, the Kenya Aviation Force has sent an aviation investigation team.
Shortly after taking off from Chesegon, where he and his group had been visiting a school, the helicopter crashed.
He stated: “A distinguished four-star general has fallen in the course of duty and in the service of the country,” he said. “Our motherland has lost one of her most valiant generals, gallant officers, service men and woman.”
On Friday, Ruto declared a three-day mourning period during which the official flag would fly at half mast.
