Nyakwala's Plea to Governor for Resolution of Land Conflicts and Chieftaincy Issues.

The people of Nyakwala, in Taraba State's Wukari local government council, requested Governor Agbu Kafas to step in and resolve the land conflicts and chieftaincy issues that are presently endangering the community's tranquilly.

The appeal was included in a statement that was provided to reporters on Monday in Jalingo.

In addition, the community requested that the Governor quickly form an influential judicial committee of inquiry to examine the Matar-Fada chief's nomination.

They requested that the governor order the Bantaje chief to stop intruding on the property owned by the community (Nyakwala).

In a joint statement, Prince Collins Umar and Irimiya Danji Barau, the community leaders, assigned the Governor the duty of selecting a new district head for Matar-Fada from the Nyakwala community while the status of third-class chief is being reviewed.

Clad in the traditional stool in question, they pleaded for the governor to intervene right away and bring justice and peace back to the state, the council, and the community.

The community pointed to the purportedly contentious appointment of the acting Matar-Fada District head, who was later elevated to the rank of third Class Chief, as the main cause of contention, pointing out that the appointment was made incorrectly following an 18-year vacancy on the stool.

“As a community, we are faced with a number of challenges that tend to threaten the peace and tranquillity of Nyakwala and her environs as a result of the unpopular decisions of the previous government as it affects the chieftaincy stool of Mata-Fada and the boundary demarcation between Nyakwala and Bantaje.”

In order to prevent the Nyakwala community from regaining their customary stool, the community brought the governor's attention to an alleged phoney and false administrative map that was created through the claimed conspiracy of Bantaje and Matar-Fada leadership.

“This map they carry about does not have the approval of the government nor does it have the seal of any government agency, the statement said. This false boundary demarcation projected by the chief has posed a serious security threat in our community, our traditional fish ponds have been seized from us and hoodlums entering our farmlands claiming that the entire area which is in Nyakwala in Matar-Fada chiefdom have been carved out to Bantaje chiefdom”.
