In A Bid To Curb The "Spread Of Immorality,"Kano Hisbah Prohibits Male DJs From Playing In Gatherings Or Events Exclusively Attended By Women.
Male disc jockeys (DJs) are not permitted to perform at gatherings in the state where women predominate, according to the Kano State Hisbah Board.
In a meeting with state DJ representatives, the Commander General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, stated that it had become imperative to forbid the mingling of men and women during events.
He stated, “As an Islamic state, it is unacceptable for us to allow the indiscriminate mixing of males and females at the same event. This is because this act can promote and spread immorality.”
He mentioned that a prior conference had been arranged to acquaint owners and managers of event venues in the state with the pertinent legislation that governs their operations.
DJ Farawa, whose real name is Ibrahim Abdullahi, thanked the board in his speech on behalf of the DJs for counseling them on the new rules the board had instituted to direct their operations.
Ibrahim said, “We are happy with the invitation of the hisbah board to our union of DJs. They have given us guidelines on the sanctity of prayer times during events, as well as the need to prevent the mixing of males and females during those events.”
Ibrahim pointed out that in order to avoid sanctions, all DJs operating in the state are required to abide by the new rules set forth by the board.
He continued, “This is why we are calling on all DJs to register with our union in order to benefit from the guidelines that have been issued.”
He threatened to withdraw the union's protection from unregistered DJs operating in the state should it be discovered that they had disregarded Hisbah's rules.
