ISWAP Issues a "Leave or Die" Ultimatum to People Living in Borno Communities.
Residents of Kukawa LGA have received notices from the terrorist group Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to leave their areas or face possible death.
Three hours after getting the threat, a resident of the community left for Maiduguri, as he disclosed to Channels Television.
The resident, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, relied on his own experience to explain that the terrorists had gathered people from different towns in the LGA early on Thursday, May 30, and threatened to kill them if they did not leave their houses by Saturday, June 1.
He claims that as soon as they learned of the terrorists' threat, locals began to leave their communities; some went to Kross Kauwa, while others headed to Monguno.
Kukawa LGA is a Lake Chad local government that is well-known for its farming, fishing, and other agricultural value chain pursuits. It is bordered by Lake Chad and is manned by Nigerian Army and Navy soldiers.
Certain settlements, such as Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa community, and Tumbun Rogo, were resettled back by the Babagana Zulum administration, despite having been forced to flee by the insurgents during the conflict.
Because of the socioeconomic value of the area to the terrorists, who depend on the farming and fishing for their own survival and financial support, Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have continued to attack the communities even after the area's relative peace and stability was restored.
