Kano State Police Pledge To Uphold The Ruling Opposing Sanusi's Reappointment As Kano's Emir.

The Federal High Court of the state has ordered the Kano State government to refrain from enforcing the statute that the Kano Emirates Council abrogated and from installing Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano, and the Kano State police command has sworn to comply with this decision.

On Friday, May 24, the state's Federal High Court's Justice Mohammed Liman issued an ex-parte decision prohibiting Governor Abba Yusuf from restoring Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. Additionally, the ruling stopped the new law's application, which eliminated the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.

Sanusi was reinstated as Emir on Friday, but the governor criticized the ruling, claiming the judge had given it from the US. Early this morning, Sanusi entered the palace as Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, arrived in the state and took up residence in a miniature palace. The ousted monarch was then ordered to be taken into custody by the governor, who said he was trying to disturb the state's tranquility.

However, Usaini Mohammed Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, cautioned troublemakers to stay away during a press conference he gave on Saturday morning at the command's headquarters.

“The Police Command is expressly obeying the Court Order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 Dated 23rd May, 2024 issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano alongside ail Law Enforcement agents in the State.

Therefore, we are calling on members of the public to know that the Police in the State is working together with the military and other security agencies and are with full capacity for providing the adequate security to everyone as we are committed to carrying out our statutory duties as provided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Undoubtedly, he continued, the law-abiding citizens of Kano were known for their revered cultural legacy and their respect for duly elected officials. In this regard, he advised them to maintain their composure, be patient, and continue working with security agencies, since the Court would be hearing the case on June 3, 2024. Additionally, he noted that the law's stance is quite clear and that anyone caught planning to disturb the tranquility that exists in the State will be subject to the full force of the law.

“Therefore, as the Police Command is leading other security agencies to sustain the peace and peaceful coexistence for overriding interests, miscreants should stay clear of violence in all its ramifications and should not take advantage or hijack the current situation to launch unprovoked attack on people, property and infrastructure of the State. Any person found with such a tendency will be ruthlessly dealt with according to the law of the land,” he said.
