Man Convicted By Court For Spraying Naira Notes During A Burial In Edo.

Osazee Kenneth Imagbenikaro was found guilty and given a jail sentence by Justice C.A. Obiozor of the Federal High Court located in Benin City for his act of spraying naira notes.


On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Imagbenikaro was found guilty on two counts of violating Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007 by spraying naira notes. This act is penalized by Section 21 (1) of the same Act.

One out of the counts states: That you Osazee Kenneth Imagbenikoro (m) on or about the 28th day of April 2023 at Ogida Police Barracks, Benin City, Edo State within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did spray N100 notes at a funeral ceremony and thereby committed an offense contrary to Section 21 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment ) Act 2007 and punishable under Section 21 (1) of the same Act."

After the charge was read to him in court, the defendant entered a guilty plea. Francis Jirbo, the prosecution's attorney, asked the court to find him guilty and to sentence him appropriately in light of his plea.

Nonetheless, the defense team begged the judge to balance justice with mercy, pointing out that the defendant has now changed his mind about what he did.

Imagbenikaro was found guilty by Justice Obiozor and given a sentence of six months in prison for each count, or a fine of N100,000 (one hundred thousand) for each.

The defendant agrees in writing to behave properly moving ahead.
