Nigeria Compares European Union's Support To Ukraine And Calls For More Support Towards Nigeria

The European Union (EU) has been asked to provide more assistance to the federal government in order to address the nation's security issues.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and the EU hosted the "Road to Schuman Forum on Security and Defence," where Mohammed Badaru, the minister of defence, stressed the interdependence of international security concerns.

Dr. Ibrahim Kana, the permanent secretary of the ministry, spoke on behalf of Badaru, who stated that instability anywhere in the world eventually impacts other countries.

According to Badaru, Nigeria could greatly benefit from even a little portion of the funds and resources given to other areas, such as the Ukraine, in its fight against terrorism and banditry.

He bemoaned the fact that, in comparison to wars in other regions of the world, Africa's security concerns frequently receive less attention.

Major General Adamu Garba Laka, the National Coordinator of NCTC, stated that in order to handle new security challenges in Nigeria as well as the ECOWAS region, stakeholders and partners must work together.

The purpose of the discussion, according to Ambassador Samuela Isopi, head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, was to acquire opinions and insights on the peace, security, and defence issues that Nigeria and its surrounding areas are confronting.

The Schuman Security and Defence Forum, which is slated to take place in Brussels, Belgium on May 28 and 29, 2024, was preceded by this event. Nigeria will take part in discussions and help develop security and defence cooperation with other EU members, partner nations, and international agencies.
