President General Accused Of Leading A Private Militia By An Anambra Community.

Chuekwuebuka Onuorah, the community's president general, has come under fire from the Traditional Council of Enugwu-Agidi in Anambra State, which is headed by the monarch, Igwe Micheal Chidozie Okeke, for allegedly operating a private militia.

To prevent a collapse in law and order, the Council called on Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, to step in.

Journalists were informed that the town is now unsafe by representatives of the community's traditional ruler, who were meeting with the commissioner for local government, chieftaincy, and community matters at the Anambra State Government House under the direction of his personal secretary, Chief Ifeanyi Ndulue.

According to Ndulue: “We are here to inform the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Matters of some ugly happening in our community.

Last month we saw pictures of people in our village wearing sundry security uniforms and a security van being handed over to them by our President General and we were told that the President General created and armed a militia against the directive of the state. This is his personal security, and he armed them.

So the Traditional Ruler, being the Chief Security Officer of the community, disapproved of it and wrote to the state government. We learnt the commissioner called the President General and asked him to disarm the militia and also disband them, but he is yet to do so.

Again, last Sunday we had phone calls that some hooded policemen came in their numbers and invaded the house of the Traditional Prime Minister of our community, Dr Osita Anameze to get him arrested.

We were informed that the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union, Hon Chuekwuebuka Onuorah made a petition against him to the Force Headquarters. We don’t even have the details of the petition, but we learnt the the IG squad came to take away the Prime Minister.

That is not the only issue in our community. The President General has made Enugwu-Agidi unsafe, and has been harassing everyone.”

Based on Ndulue, the community has been asked to submit the complaint in writing, and the meeting with the commissioner proved to be beneficial.

The President General, meantime, has maintained that the security detail is community-wide and not personal to him.

“They are just trying to create confusion. The vigilante they are talking about is Enugwu-Agidi Vigilante, not Ebuka Onuorah vigilante.”

In response to claims that he hired security guards to detain the prime minister, the President General questioned, “Why are they panicking? Just once that police came for them, they are panicking. Do you know how many times they have arrested me? If someone is not guilty, why are they afraid of policemen.”
