Student Beaten To Death For Allegedly stealing a Cell Phone.

Alex Timileyin, a 200-level student at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo State, was reportedly beaten to death by other students after they claimed to have stolen a cell phone.

On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Shepherd Inn guesthouse on the school grounds, an incident took place. It was learned that the students had also allegedly forced the deceased man to shave his hair.

Due to the sensitivity of the situation, a school source who talked to the Punch under the condition of anonymity claimed that the deceased had been beaten from Friday evening until roughly ten in the morning on Saturday. 

According to the source: “They said they caught him with a stolen phone. They started beating him from 6pm yesterday (Friday) until he died at about 10am today (Saturday). The incident happened at ‘Shepherd Inn’. It’s like a lodge or a hostel now. They also shaved the hair of the guy before beating him.”

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) administration has, in the meantime, expelled those students who had a hand in a fellow student's death.

The expulsion was announced in a statement released on Saturday, May 25, by the institution's spokesperson, Femi Atoyebi.

The university emphasized that it has no tolerance for any kind of anti-societal vices or wrongdoing and declared that, in contrast to popular belief, cultism does not exist on campus.

“Contrary to what is trending, the university affirms that there is no cultism in the institution, just as the university has zero tolerance for any sort of anti-societal vices and misconduct. It is important to stress that the expelled students do not belong to any cult group.”

Along with the expulsion, the University has turned over all of the involved students to Oyo State Police Command investigators for further investigation.
