The Nigerian Men's 4x400-Meter Relay Team Set A Record To Qualify For The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris...!
Dubem Nwachukwu, Dubem Amene, Sikiru Adeyemi, and Chidi Okezie, the men's 4x400-meter relay team from Nigeria, performed admirably at the 2024 World Relays, finishing in 3:01.70 to earn an Olympic qualifier.
Nigeria was pitted against sprint and relay gurus Jamaica and Belgium, and needed to place in the top two to earn a spot at the Olympics.
Despite a slow start, Ogazi overcame it with a tactical race that saw her hand the lead in second place to Onojuvwevwo, who ran a close race with USA's Lynna Irby Jackson. Okezie, the reigning African Games 400m Champion, then passed Ryan Willie in the bend to take the lead from the USA with the fastest overall split of 44.78s.
Team Nigeria placed second with a time of 3:13.79, which guaranteed them a spot at the Olympics for the second time, while Joseph held onto the lead set by her colleague until the first 100m, when Kendall Elis powered through to retake the lead and bring the stick round in a Championships Record (CR) of 3:11.52. With 3:15.95, South Africa came in third, while Bahrain was declared a DNF.
The quartet of James Godday, Musa Audu, Saul Weigopwa, and Enefiok Udo-Obong, who won bronze in the 4x400-meter relay at Athens in 2004, set a record for the fastest time by a Nigerian male 4x400-meter team with their time of 3:01.70.
