A Family's Home and Farms Destroyed in Ebonyi State Due to Alleged Witchcraft

On June 12th, the family of Mr. John Ekpono in Agharoza, Iboko, Ebonyi State, experienced a life-changing tragedy. Accused by a local clergyman of causing the community's misfortunes, Ekpono's home and farms were destroyed by rampaging youths. The family claims their properties were targeted after the clergyman’s accusations. In response, the Izzi Local Government Chairman deployed security to prevent further violence, leading to the arrest of thirty suspects.



The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Ebonyi State Police are investigating the incident. NHRC condemned the attack, emphasizing the dangers of superstition and promising justice for the victims. This tragic event underscores the devastating impact of unverified accusations and mob justice in communities.
