NBA Honours Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano.

In what appears to be an acknowledgment of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, as the legitimate Emir of Kano, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has extended an invitation to him during the ongoing struggle for the throne of the emirate.

All of the district chiefs in Kano's 44 local government areas, council chairmen, commissioners, well-meaning Kano residents, and Nigerians believed he was the heir apparent. Sanusi has also been recognized by the NBA, which is now holding its annual conference in Kano, as the 16th Emir of Kano.

The first NBA annual conference for the entire northern region was held at the Amani Event Centre in Kano. Attendees included Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Aboki, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, and President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip.

The NBA formally invited Emir Sanusi to not only attend but also to give his royal approval and address the attendees due to the importance of this event. Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero was not invited by the NBA as they acknowledged that the new Kano chieftaincy legislation 2024 had overthrown the 15th emir.

Due to the organised labour unions' strike action, the matter that was scheduled to be heard at the federal high court yesterday was postponed. Speaking at the NBA conference through his agent Mahe Bashir Wali, also known as Walin Kano, Emir Sanusi greeted the attendees with warmth and informed them of Kano's long and distinguished history as the northern region's commercial and cultural hub.

The conference's theme, "Administration of Justice in Nigeria: Challenges and Reforms," according to the monarch, was appropriate since society can only have peace when there is justice in the nation, which is a requirement for advancement and development.

Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, the state governor, saw it as an excellent chance to confront the NBA members on the inconsistent court rulings regarding the Kano emirate dispute, even though the subject is solely a matter of state law.

The governor instructed the attorneys to always tell their clients the truth when they bring a bad case, even when the truth is bitter, rather than insisting on satisfying their clients by doing what is not permitted by law. The governor was represented at the conference by Abdullahi Bappa Bichi, Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The Governor stated that we need to respect the rule of law and implement extensive judicial reforms in order to address the issues facing Nigeria's justice system.

Barr O.M. Femi, speaking to reporters about the emirate dispute, stated that while the NBA is aware of what is going on, it is best for the court to make a decision so that no one will feel wronged again. The decision will establish a standard for solicitors and judges handling similar cases.

“However, you don’t need to be told or wear binoculars to see that His Royal Majesty Muhammadu Sanusi II is the current Emir of Kano. Nothing explains this fact more than what could be deduced from the ongoing NBA’s annual conference attended by Muhammadu Sanusi II by proxy. The recognition accorded him by the legal practitioners of our land tells it all,” he said.
