President Tinubu Appoints Tanimu Yakubu as New Director-General of the Federation's Budget Office.

Tanimu Yakubu's appointment as the Director-General of the Federation's Budget Office has been authorized by President Bola Tinubu.

The presidential spokeswoman, Ajuri Ngelale, issued a statement announcing the appointment, citing Ben Akabueze's term coming to an end.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari initially named Akabueze as the director-general of the federation's budget office in June 2016. On May 17, 2020, his tenure was then renewed for an additional year.

According to a statement from the administration, Yakubu is a skilled economist who served as the previous president's senior economic advisor from 2007 to 2010. It also revealed that Yakubu served as Katsina state's commissioner of finance, budget, and economic planning from 1999 to 2003, as well as the managing director and managing director (CEO) of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007.

The statement: “The new Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the same institution. President Tinubu thanks the outgoing Director-General, Mr. Akabueze, for his services and wishes him success in his future endeavours.”

The president anticipates that the new director-general of “this pivotal agency” will improve the delivery of effective and high-quality budgetary services even more in order to advance accountability, transparency, and fiscal sustainability in public finance management for the benefit of national development, according to the statement.
