Ransom Negotiator Killed by Bandits After Delivering Payment in Kaduna State
After giving the bandits N16 million in ransom and three motorcycles in exchange for the release of nine people they had kidnapped in Jere, Kaduna State, a 27-year-old man known only as Abba was shot and killed by them.
According to DailyTrust, on April 16, 2024, bandits broke into a few homes in Unguwar Iya, Jere, kidnapped nine individuals, and demanded N30 million.
Shuaibu Hussaini, a community member who attested to Abba's death, stated that the incident occurred last Saturday, June 15, following the victim's attempt to deliver N16 million and three motorcycles to the bandit leader at a nearby location. The victim was the one responsible for negotiating the ransom.

He claimed that the deceased was bound with a rope by the robbers' leader, who then opened fire on him after taking the bikes and the ransom.
“It was one of the victims who was among those released who said the bandits’ leader claimed that they decided to kill Abba for being rude to him during the negotiation of the ransom. It was when one of the family members of the victims tried to find out the whereabouts of Abba after delivering the ransom that the bandits’ leader asked the family to go to a particular location and pick his corpse,” he said
Hussaini said that in addition to the community going through a period of grief over the deceased's passing, the Jere chiefdom was also grieving over the deceased's murder.
