Teen's Lung Burst from Consistently vaping the Equivalence of 57 Cigarettes a day for 2 years.

After his daughter vaped the equivalent of 400 cigarettes a week, a hole blew in her lung, prompting her father to rush her to the hospital.

When Mark Blythe received a call early on May 11 informing him that his 17-year-old daughter Kyla had passed out and gone "blue" during a sleepover at a friend's house, he became quite upset.

Before her lung collapsed that morning due to an excessive vaping habit that had burst a small air blister on her lungs known as a pulmonary bleb, Kyla believed her habit to be "harmless."

Kyla had to have a five-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove a portion of her lung when she almost went into cardiac arrest.

She had to wait an additional two weeks before being permitted to return home.

Her Father stated: ‘It was terrifying for me. I’ve cried like a baby. It was horrible to watch. I’ve been with her the whole time.

It was life-threatening. It really did threaten her life because she was so close to having a cardiac arrest on that Friday. They said she went blue. They thought she’d gone.’

Since turning 15, Kyla has started vaping, consuming 4,000 puffs each week, or 400 cigarettes a day, with her vape pen.

She now claims that her experience has scared her away from the habit: ‘When I was 15 it started becoming a popular thing. All my friends were doing it. I just thought it would be harmless and that I would be fine. Everyday I would use the 4,000-puff ones and I would go through them in about a week.

I honestly thought they were harmless and wouldn’t do anything to anyone, even though I had seen so many things about it. I just feel like everyone has that same view.

But now I won’t touch them. I wouldn’t go near them. The situation has really scared me out of them. I was terrified. We went in there thinking we were only going to be in there for a few hours but ended up being there for two weeks having surgeries and all this.’

Concerned about his daughter's near-death experience, Mark is eager to advise other youth that "vaping is not worth it" and to "throw away vapes."
