Another Traditional Ruler Murdered in Taraba State.

In Taraba State, there has been another horrific murder of a traditional ruler. Alongside his son, the monarch—a third-class chief of Chanchanji in the state's Takum local government council—was assassinated.

Unknown gunmen are reported to have brutally killed Alhaji Tanimu Kunbiya and his son Yusuf Kunbiya on Friday night. The tragedy happened as the king was making his way back from a funeral along the Takum-Chanchanji road. Tension was present in the neighbourhood at the time this report was filed.

Recall that gunmen recently also assassinated Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, the village leader of Usmanu village in the Karim-Lamido local government area of the state, and his younger brother.

According to DAILY POST, the killing was verified to them in the early hours of Saturday by State police spokesperson Gambo Kwache. “We got the report that the third-class chief of Chanchanji and his son were killed in an ambush in Jakudi village,” he said.

In order to keep the calm, he continued, extra highly armed police officers and other security personnel had been sent to the area.

In a statement released by Chief James Baka, the President General of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association, the organization's leadership denounced the deaths and urged law enforcement and security personnel to apprehend those responsible. He implored the community's residents to maintain composure and let the security personnel carry out their constitutional duties.
