Education Minister Announces 18 Years as the New JAMB Age Requirement.

Stakeholders attending the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy conference were startled when Education Minister Prof. Mamman Tahir declared that applicants must be at least 18 years old to be admitted to universities.

The crowd screamed "no, no, no" as soon as the Minister made the comment in his speech and policy directive. However, Tahir argued that it is already a policy the government has adjusted, as it is expected that candidates are significantly more mature at the age of 18. He noted that anyone who felt wronged might request an amendment from the National Assembly.

Every year, representatives from the nation's tertiary institutions gather for the JAMB policy meeting to determine the proper cut-off scores for admissions for the upcoming academic year.

Mamman had earlier denounced the scenario in which youngsters enroll in universities but, due to their immaturity, become victims of bad vices.

Details to follow.
