Fuel Shortages in Nigeria Linked to NNPCL Supply Issues.
Billy Gillis-Harry, president of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association (PETROAN), revealed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is not supplying Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol), causing shortages in Abuja, Nasarawa, and other states.
In an interview with DAILY POST, he explained that fuel marketers cannot set prices as they depend on the quantity purchased from NNPCL, which is the sole importer. The shortage has led to long lines at petrol stations, with many stations running out of fuel.
Gillis-Harry also dismissed the notion that the anticipated start of gasoline supply from the Dangote refinery in mid-July 2024 was causing the shortage, stating that the refinery has not yet produced any fuel. He urged NNPCL to address the supply challenges to prevent further shortages.
