Niger State Youths Begin Protest Against Economic Hardship

Some youths have taken to the streets of Niger State to demonstrate against the dire economic conditions in Nigeria, despite appeals from the administration.
protesters took to the streets on Monday, yelling songs unflattering to the government.

Placards reading "Enough is Enough," "Stop Anti-Masses Policies," "We Are Not Slaves In Our Country," "Hardship Is Unbearable," and "Fuel Subsidy Must Be Back" were among the ones they brandished.

To quell the unrest, Governor Mohammed Bago courted Niger's populace last week with charity gifts.

To lessen the current economic suffering, he ordered the immediate release of 50,000 metric tonnes of varied grains to be sold at reduced rates. He also announced a N20,000 wage stipend for civil servants in state and local government.
