Nigerian Government Announces Rice Availability at Reduced Price

The Nigerian government has informed the populace that 50-kilogram bags of rice, priced at N40,000, are currently accessible throughout the nation.
At a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris revealed this in response to enquiries from journalists. According to the Minister, rice has been supplied to the appropriate areas while sales to Nigerians are pending.

He claims that in order to prevent a small number of people from controlling rice sales, the government is still revealing the procedures. He promised that Nigerians would receive information from the government about the locations throughout the nation where they can purchase the product for the stated price.

“I can confirm to you that the rice at N40,000 per 50-kilogram bag is available. It will be sold at different centres across the country. We will give Nigerians details on the point-by-buy locations of where it’s being sold once the sales kickoff. Care is being taken so that it will not be hijacked by those who have money to purchase in large quantities and mop it up with the intended beneficiaries getting it,” he said.

Growing worries that the commodity is still unavailable in Nigerian shops at N40,000 per bag have prompted the Minister to provide an explanation. Remember that the government asked people to avoid the August 1, 2024, demonstration when it announced on Monday that the price of a bag of rice has been lowered by 50% to N40,000 for a 50kg bag.
