President Tinubu to Meet with Labour Leaders to Discuss New Minimum Wage.

President Bola Tinubu will meet with organised labour today, July 11, to discuss a new minimum wage. The meeting will take place at the presidential house and is expected to be attended by representatives of the tripartite committee.
On June 3, labour unions, including the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), went on a nationwide strike in response to a dispute over the minimum wage. The federal government's offer of a N60,000 minimum wage was rejected by the NLC and TUC, who instead proposed N494,000 as the new national minimum wage, citing inflation and the country's current economic challenges.

State governors, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), declared on June 7 that a minimum salary of N60,000 would not be feasible. In the most recent tripartite committee meeting, organised labour reduced its demand to N250,000, rejecting the government's offer of N62,000.
