Two Rescued from Osun State Building Collapse.

According to the Osun State Police Command, two people were saved from the collapsed building in the Sabo neighborhood of Osogbo, the state capital. The command spokesman, Yemisi Opalola, stated on Monday that only two people were found to be trapped beneath the debris of the one-story structure during rescue operations conducted by security agencies.
The building fell on Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, entrapping five people. In response, Governor Ademola Adeleke, through his spokeswoman Olawale Rasheed, cautioned developers and locals not to build homes without approved building plans.

Opalola said, “The said building collapsed at about 07:30 hrs today Sunday, 14th July 2024, entrapping five people. Two people have been rescued so far while the remaining three are entrapped under the decking that requires the use of a crane.”

Adeleke added that the building, which thugs were using as a hiding spot, posed a threat to the local population. The command had already issued a warning about it in a June 10 report. She continued, “The building we reported was an eyesore, and we recommended raiding by the task force and the environmental body to sanitize it.”

The Nigerian police reported that of the two people rescued, one had apparent wounds while the other did not. Opalola mentioned, “Part of the rescue activities of the victims of the collapsed building at Sabo area of Osogbo today by the Osun State government. Amotekun led by one Asiwaju were also there. Finally, it was discovered that only two persons were trapped and rescued. One sustained no visible injury while the other that sustained injury is responding to treatment in the hospital.”
