14 Year Old Sentenced to Six Months in Juvenile Home for Theft in Jos

A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to six months in a juvenile home after being convicted of stealing two grinding machines, according to an order issued by a Jos Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The juvenile entered a guilty plea and was summarily tried by Mr. Shawomi Bokkos, the magistrate. In addition to the sentence, the magistrate imposed a fine of N20,000 on the convicted minor.

The magistrate urged the young person to repent and reflect on his actions.

The incident was reported on July 1 at the Laranto Police Station by several community leaders, according to the prosecution's attorney, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat. The prosecution stated that the convicted minor conspired with friends, who have since escaped, to steal the machinery valued at N50,000.

Fortunately, police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen grinding equipment. The prosecution noted that the offense is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.
