24-Hour Curfew Imposed in Jos North and Bukuru by Plateau State Governor

A 24-hour curfew has been enforced in Jos North and the Bukuru area by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. He claimed that in an effort to improve life security and uphold public order, the decision had become essential.

Gyang Bere, the governor's director of press and public affairs, signed a news release that said this: “In a decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.”

The governor went on to say that after examining the activities of dishonest people who took advantage of the nationwide protest to terrorize defenseless civilians, the decision was made in consultation with the state security services.

Mutfwang observed that “these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.”

In order to protect everyone's safety and wellbeing, he underlined that the curfew was in everyone's best interest and urged everyone to abide by it completely.

He gave state security agencies orders to guarantee that the curfew is strictly enforced throughout Jos/Bukuru Metropolis. “Those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law,” he warned.

In order to avoid any possible disruptions to law and order, the governor also urged the pertinent security services to continue being watchful and aggressive in their tasks.

Governor Mutfwang conveyed his appreciation to the people of Plateau State, especially the imams and clergy, for their steadfast support of the policies and initiatives of the government.

He commended them for their dedication to upholding peace and unity and thanked them for their cooperation and obedience to instructions during the scheduled statewide protest.

“The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable. I urge everyone to continue to uphold this culture of peace as we work together to build a united and progressive Plateau,” Mutfwang added.
