APC Members Demand Dismissal of Oil and Gas Regulatory Leaders Over Industry Mismanagement

Under the Tinubu Legacy Coalition (TLC), several members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for President Bola Tinubu to remove the leaders of Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory agencies. They argue that these officials have failed to manage the industry effectively.

In a letter addressed to President Tinubu, signed by Princess Ajibola, Dr. Thomas Terna, Hon. Bala Abu (Convener/National President), Dr. Jeremmiah Okino (Co-Convener), Comrade Gabriel Gbana (Secretary), and 95 other signatories, the APC stakeholders demanded the resignation of Farouk Ahmed (NNPCL), Gbenga Komolafe (NUPRC), and Mele Kyari (NMDPRA).

The letter cites issues such as pipeline damage, oil theft, and persistent fuel shortages causing long lines at gas stations as evidence of the officials’ failures. There are also concerns that the NNPCL-managed refinery in Rivers State has faced multiple delays.

The letter further criticizes the oil and gas sector’s declining contribution to the GDP and its tarnished international reputation. It states:

“We are compelled to express our deep concern over the state of the nation’s oil and gas industry. Despite the sector’s potential to drive economic growth, it has been plagued by inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement.

“The continued stay in office of Mele Kyari, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, and Farouk Ahmed has done more harm than good to the image of President Tinubu.

“The sector is in shambles, with fuel scarcity, pipeline vandalism, and oil theft rampant. The sector’s contribution to the nation’s GDP has dwindled, and the country’s reputation has been tarnished.

“The lack of transparency and accountability has led to widespread corruption, with billions of dollars lost to fraudulent activities.”
