Heavy Rains Cause Significant Damage to Major Highway Between Kano and Maiduguri

Heavy rains have caused severe damage to the federal highway connecting Kano and Maiduguri, particularly between Malori and Guskuri villages in Bauchi State's Katagum Local Government Area. The highway has been split in two by the flooding, forcing vehicles to seek alternative routes.

During a visit to assess the damage, Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammed emphasized the road's crucial role as a major conduit between Nigeria's Northeast and Northwest regions. He urged the Federal Government to promptly investigate the condition of the damaged road.

“This is a major highway, the Northeast highway, and the dual carriageways have been completely washed away,” Governor Muhammed stated in a Thursday report. He called for federal assistance and announced that the issue would be reported to Abuja through the Controller of Works.

Governor Muhammed added, “If the Federal Government is unable to address the problem, we will take action to implement remedial or permanent measures, similar to what was done during the last rainy season.”
