Mother and Five Children Die After Consuming Contaminated Food

In a tragic incident in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, a mother and her five children lost their lives after consuming a local delicacy known as dandwake. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 15, at the home of the late Malam Abdulkarin.

A neighbor, Garba Muhammad, informed Daily Trust that the widow, who was struggling to provide for her five children, used outdated cassava flour to prepare the meal due to hunger and financial difficulties.

“Eating the food led to the death of the six members of the family, including the mother,” Muhammad revealed.

The victims have been identified as Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children: Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman, and Jamilu.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the tragic event on Saturday, August 17. He stated that the six family members were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital, where they were declared deceased by medical professionals.

Kiyawa added that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of death.
