New Head of Civil Service Emphasizes Importance of Computer Literacy for Federal Personnel
Computer literacy is crucial for federal personnel, as highlighted by Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the newly appointed Head of the Federal Service of the Federation (HOCSF).
While overseeing the Confirmatory Promotional Examination (COMPRO), which is administered to public employees at 45 locations across the country, Walson-Jack made this declaration in Abuja. She emphasized that there is no place for people who are not computer literate in the country's civil service and tasked public officials with learning computers to prepare for the new civil service operations.
“For public servants to be relevant in today’s civil service under the digitization program, you must be computer literate,’’ she said.
According to Walson-Jack, the federal government is modernizing the service to comply with international norms, and those civil officials who are not yet computer literate must become so.
Walson-Jack was accompanied by Mr. Raymond Omachi, Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office, at the HOCSF office. She noted that 12,444 individuals nationwide took the exam. The exam was administered in cooperation with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and included newly appointed officials from all branches of the public sector, including the paramilitary.
Transparency in the exercise was the driving force behind the endeavor, according to Walson-Jack. “From what we have seen, I think the process is seamless. I have been told that everything is going well,’’ she said.
She praised JAMB for the smooth execution of the exercise. Mrs. Funmilola B-Usman, Acting Director of Information Technology Services at JAMB, also commended the initiative as a "great one." She expressed her satisfaction with the candidates' behavior in the exam rooms.
“It is great and surprising that the candidates are actually in tune with the system. Their attitude and posture portrayed that they are very ready for the exercise, and that’s exactly what we are seeing now,‘’ she said
