Nigeria’s Electricity Generation Falls from Year-High

Just two weeks after reaching a year-high of 5,105 megawatts on July 27, Nigeria's electricity generation has dropped to 3,521.37 megawatts as of Saturday, according to the latest 24-hour National grid performance data.

This data reflects the electricity produced by the 22 power plants connected to the nation’s main electrical grid. Egbin power plant was the largest contributor with 450 megawatts, while Geregu NIPP (Gas) and Sapele National Integrated Power Plant (Gas) reported zero generation.

This decline follows a peak in electricity generation, which had hit a three-year high of 5,105 megawatts, as noted by Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu. Despite significant investments in the power sector, Nigeria, with a population of over 200 million, has struggled to maintain consistent electricity generation within the 3,000 to 5,000 megawatt range.
