Obasanjo Responds to Claims of Igbo Descent: "It Just Makes Me Laugh"
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has finally responded to claims that he is of Igbo descent. On Thursday, August 15, while speaking at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo addressed the leadership of the Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association, which represents major markets in Lagos State.
In response to the assertion about his alleged Igbo heritage, Obasanjo remarked, "It just makes me laugh." His lighthearted dismissal of the claim underscored his belief in the unity of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic background.
Obasanjo also emphasized that no Nigerian should be forced to leave the country, asserting, "We own this country together." He further elaborated on the importance of national unity, saying, "Having ensured that the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas all came together to fight the war of unity in Nigeria, and not to fight Igbos to go, but to come."
Concluding his remarks, Obasanjo made it clear that he opposes any notion of displacing people from their homes based on ethnicity. "So if anybody says to me, that somebody should leave any place, he will be the one to leave," he stated.
