Police Refute Claims of Officer Shooting an Adolescent During Kubwa Demonstration

Reports that an FCT police command officer killed an unidentified adolescent in Kubwa on August 3, 2024, while he was demonstrating have been refuted.

A young child is seen narrating how the deceased was killed in a video that is now viral on social media. The boy claimed that the dead man was only passing by and not involved in the protest when he was shot and killed. The child claimed that prior to the teenager being shot to death, a few police officers had earlier pointed a gun at him and other people.

“In light of the rather infuriated incident, the commissioner of police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, has ordered that an immediate investigation be conducted to ascertain the remote cause of death of the deceased, calling on well-meaning residents to provide the command with necessary information to aid the investigation.

While expressing profound condolences to the family of the bereaved, he assures the family and public of swift justice, as effort is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the unfortunate incident,” the statement reads in part.

The command is aware of the antics of troublemakers who would try to take advantage of the current state of affairs in the nation to disseminate false information and instill fear in the public, Adeh continued.
