President Tinubu Chairs First National Council of State Meeting

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to chair the National Council of State meeting at the Presidential Villa. This marks Tinubu's first Council of State meeting since taking office as president.

The meeting has commenced with all current living former presidents and leaders of state expected to attend. As of the latest update, former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan were present, while Abdulsalami Abubakar and former Head of State Yakubu Gowon participated digitally.

Insiders close to the presidency have indicated that the #EndBadGovernance protests, which began on August 1 and ended before the planned ten-day period, are a top agenda item. In addition to the protests, various ministers from the Tinubu administration are scheduled to address the Council.

Although not members of the Council, the President has invited the ministers to make presentations. Expected attendees include the Chief of the Federation's Civil Service, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the Special Adviser on Information & Strategy.

Scheduled speakers include the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the Minister for Works, the Minister for Road Construction, and the Minister in Charge of the Ministry, along with NSA Nuhu Ribadu's lead presentation.

The Council of State comprises the President (Chairman), the Vice-President (Deputy Chairman), all past Presidents and Heads of Government of the Federation, all past Chief Justices of Nigeria, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all former Governors of the Federation states, the Minister of Justice, and the Attorney General of the Federation.
