Zone 7 Police Command Arrests Carjacking Suspects and Recovers Stolen Vehicles

The Zone 7 Police Command Headquarters, responsible for the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, has arrested four suspects linked to a carjacking syndicate. The suspects—Solomon Nuhu, 22; Faruk Umar, 17; and Lawal Yusuf, 38—are known for their involvement in carjackings at gunpoint and face charges including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, possession of stolen vehicles, and illegal possession of firearms.

On August 7, the police announced the recovery of five suspected stolen vehicles from L.Y. Nadabo Motors, located next to One Man Village Shopping Centre in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State. The arrests were made by detectives from the Special Investigation Squad of the Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja, who acted on actionable intelligence.

One of the suspects, Haruna Akubo, also known as Young Alhaji, was apprehended, while Bolaji Yusuf, 34, and Abubakar Umar were arrested at Heart Plaza, Maraba. Bolaji Yusuf was found with two vehicle master keys, three stolen phones, and a bunch of car keys.

Further investigations led to the recovery of thirty-two phones of various makes and a 9mm Beretta pistol with live ammunition from Faruk Umar. The pistol was later traced to Solomon Nuhu, who claimed to have purchased it from Faruk Umar for N130,000.

Detectives also recovered five more cars in Ankpa LGA, Kogi State, including a Lexus IS 250, the owner of which was reportedly killed while attempting to steal the vehicle. Ibrahim Umar, also known as Godiya, is currently at large. In total, ten vehicles with altered chassis numbers were recovered, along with various items such as a fabricated Beretta pistol, three laptops, an LG television set, 32 mobile phones, fabricated car master keys, two POS machines, 13 used SIM cards, and other phone kits.

A thorough investigation has been ordered by AIG Ogundele J. Ayodeji, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters. The suspects will be charged and brought to court. AIG Ayodeji also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and trust in the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting people and property.
