Activist Omoyele Sowore Released by DSS After Brief Detention at Lagos Airport
Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), was briefly detained and later released by the Department of State Services (DSS) after arriving at Lagos' Murtala Muhammad International Airport on Sunday.
Sowore, a well-known activist, was reportedly taken into custody by agents of the DSS shortly after landing at the airport. This incident followed Sowore's claims made on Saturday, where he suggested that security services were planning to abduct him.
In a statement shared prior to the arrest, Sowore said, “Yeah! All around in my hometown, they’re tryin’ to track me down. They say they want to bring me in guilty. However, Babylon must fall! #FearlessInOctober.”
Constitutional lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed to DAILY POST that Sowore had been released and his passport returned. Adeyanju stated, “Omoyele Sowore released, passport returned to him. Aluta continua.”
Sowore has been a vocal critic of the Nigerian government, and this latest incident highlights the ongoing tensions between the activist and security agencies.
