Aisha Yesufu Vows to Oppose Peter Obi if He Runs as Vice President in 2027
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has publicly declared that she will actively oppose Peter Obi if he decides to run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
In recent weeks, there have been calls for Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, to run alongside a Northern politician as their vice-presidential candidate in the next electoral cycle. While Obi has rejected this specific suggestion, he expressed his willingness to work with anyone committed to advancing Nigeria's development.
However, Aisha Yesufu, in a video that has since gone viral, made her stance clear: she will not support such a move. "He should run as Vice? I am giving you my word now. Do not say I did not say it. If Peter Obi is running with anyone as the Vice President or running mate to that person, me, Aisha Yesufu, in my little capacity, I will work against that ticket,” Yesufu declared.
She continued, “Even if I do not support any other party, it is to work against that ticket. Because what is this? Why are we always asking the best to be second? They have turned Peter Obi to the case of the way they treat women. They always put you in the deputy position, running mate."
Yesufu emphasized that she believes Peter Obi deserves a leadership role and criticized the idea of relegating him to a supporting position: "Even if it is a goat that is running for President, you people will put Aisha Yesufu as Vice because as a woman, you see me as vice and nothing else."
Yesufu’s statement has stirred conversation, especially among those who see Obi as a leading figure for the 2027 elections. However, Peter Obi has yet to comment on Yesufu’s latest remarks.
