Flooding in Maiduguri Forces Thousands to Evacuate as Alau Dam Collapses

Thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, due to severe flooding that has impacted several areas of the city. The majority of the affected regions are located within the Local Government Area of Jere.

The flooding crisis reached its peak on Tuesday, September 10, just one week after it began. Key areas including the Custom Area, Shehu Laminu Way, the Post Office, and the State-owned Broadcasting Station BRTV have been severely impacted.

The floods in Maiduguri are attributed to the collapse of the Alau Dam, which has exacerbated the situation. As a result, many residents have been displaced and are seeking refuge in safer locations.

The situation remains critical as emergency services and local authorities work to address the aftermath and provide assistance to those affected.
