NAFDAC Shuts Down Factory Producing Fake Cosmetics in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on behalf of the Federal Government, has shut down an illegal factory manufacturing fake cosmetics at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

According to a post shared on NAFDAC's X handle on Tuesday, the agency's operatives raided the factory, discovering a variety of unregistered chemicals, expired products being revalidated for sale, and packaging materials.

NAFDAC revealed that more than 1,200 cartons of counterfeit cosmetics were confiscated during the raid. Additional items seized included mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners, all of which were taken to NAFDAC headquarters for further investigation.

The agency estimated the street value of the seized items to be around N50 million.

NAFDAC is urging the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office. The agency stressed the importance of checking for proper labels and registration numbers when buying cosmetics to avoid harmful counterfeit goods.
