NCEF Urges President Tinubu to Lower Electricity Tariff and Fuel Prices to Ease Hardships

In a bid to alleviate the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians, the National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reduce the high electricity tariffs and fuel pump prices.

The forum, during a recent gathering, also highlighted the need for increased security, especially for rural farmers, who are essential to ensuring food security for the nation.

In a statement following the meeting, Samuel Danjuma Dani, chairman of the NCEF and deputy governor of Taraba State, noted that the recent hike in petrol prices has significantly impacted the cost of food and other essential goods. He further emphasized that this price increase has contributed to the widespread protests seen across Nigeria in recent months.

The Christian Elders stressed that reducing fuel prices and electricity tariffs would improve productivity and create more job opportunities, particularly for the youth. They urged the government to review the high petrol prices, which would help ease the suffering of the population, and suggested lowering electricity tariffs to allow Nigerians to produce goods and services at a more affordable cost.

In their statement, the group emphasized, “We call for improved security, particularly for farmers in rural areas who are crucial to the nation’s food security. While we recognize the Government’s efforts in this regard, we urge for more immediate and effective actions.”

The NCEF expressed confidence that these simple proposals would significantly reduce the hardships currently experienced by many Nigerians.
